The 10 Spot: Pasta
Uncover 10 polished pasta dishes that exemplify the creativity, craftsmanship, and culinary flair defining the area’s Italian dining scene.

by Kacie Scibilia
With Italian food dominating the local dining landscape, it’s no surprise that so many area gourmands find themselves regularly digging into a delectable plate of pasta. In order to find the best in the region, we went beyond the typical spaghetti and meatballs to uncover 10 polished pasta dishes that exemplify the creativity, craftsmanship, and culinary flair defining the area’s Italian dining scene.

Capelli D’Angelo Pesto Siciliano Con Pomodoro at ITA101 in Medford
You can’t go wrong with this housemade sun-dried tomato and pesto sauce that clings to delicate angel hair pasta. It’s tossed with almonds and pine nuts and finished with tangy pecorino.

Rigatoni alla Disgraziata at Zeppoli in Collingswood
Disgraziata means disgrace, but that name is a grave injustice to this classic rigatoni dish. The bite of the pasta pairs beautifully with the soft, earthy undertone of eggplant and the firm, aged ricotta. Add in the texture from basil breadcrumbs and you have perfection.

Shrimp and Crab Meat Fra Diablo at Allora in Marlton
This dish pairs mildly sweet jumbo lump crab meat with savory, pan-seared shrimp and brings it home with a spicy, decadent tomato and red pepper sauce, all over imported spaghetti and topped with long hots for an added kick.

Penne Contadina at Ristorante Fieni’s in Voorhees
We can’t get enough of this perfectly al dente penne that’s tossed with rich, velvety cannellini beans and peppery, robust broccoli rabe to create a cohesive bite bursting with flavor.

Sacchetti alla Briglia at Briglia’s Tavern in Berlin
Few pasta plates are as satisfying as these tender pouches filled with creamy ricotta and bathed in a sherry cream sauce that hugs the pleats of the dumpling-like purses and enhances the accompanying asparagus, tender baby shrimp and cherry tomatoes.

Lobster Ravioli at Il Villagio in Cherry Hill
Regulars will tell you this is one of the finest ravioli dishes in South Jersey—or elsewhere. Handmade squares are shaped and filled with a luxurious blend of lobster and ricotta and then covered in a smooth-as-silk brandy and blush cream sauce.

Cavatelli Carini at Cucina Carini in Mount Laurel
This Mount Laurel mainstay offers a true taste of Italy with this signature dish featuring a savory mixture of crumbled hot sausage, spinach and mushrooms mixed with a light garlic wine sauce.

Pappardelle a Modo Mio at Limoncello in Washington Township
Flat ribbons of pappardelle and sumptuous mushrooms are paired with a rich, flavorful creamy short rib ragu, resulting in a rustic plate of comfort food that you won’t soon forget.

Truffle Gnocchi at Michael Coastal Italian Grille in Collingswood
Pillowy, airy potato gnocchi are coated in a fragrant black-and-white truffle sauce, then topped with prosciutto cotto, which unlike traditional prosciutto is cooked and offers a milder flavor profile that doesn’t overpower the other ingredients.

Fettuccine 417 at Mare Monte in Haddonfield
This elevated take on a familiar favorite features fettuccine tossed with slightly sweet peas, tender roasted red peppers and sausage, all coated in an aromatic saffron emulsion with olive oil and roasted garlic.
