The Artistic Trainer
For Dr. Robin Levin, cosmetic dermatology is where science, artistry and education come together.
For more than two decades, Dr. Robin Levin has combined medical expertise with an artistic eye to help patients feel confident in their skin. When she opened South Jersey Skin Care & Laser Center in 2005, she didn’t expect cosmetic dermatology to become such a significant part of her practice—but it quickly became her passion.
“I wasn’t planning on doing a lot of cosmetics, but it grew organically. Patients trusted me, loved their results, and quietly referred friends and family. At that time, getting Botox or fillers was a well-kept secret. Twenty years later, I appreciate the open conversations, education and accessibility that empower patients to make confident decisions. And I love the artistic outlet. Every patient is wonderfully unique.” Dr. Levin says.
Staying on Top of the Field
Over the years, Dr. Levin has treated thousands of patients, advised major aesthetic brands and continually refined her skills through advanced education and master classes.
“The training is great. Things change,” she says.
Dr. Levin also pays attention to social media trends, though not always with enthusiasm.
“Unfortunately, much of what I see raises risk to the patient, overinflates results and borders on unethical. There are excellent providers educating appropriately, but there’s also a great deal of misinformation,” she says.
Whether learning from industry leaders or evaluating new technology, Dr. Levin has one standard: she only introduces products and procedures she truly believes deliver safe, meaningful results.
“When patients ask why we don’t offer a trending laser or product, I’m honest—maybe too honest. Everything goes through a vetting process. I won’t chase trends,” she says.
In fact, every recommendation of Dr. Levin’s is grounded in science, safety, anatomy and years of clinical experience, not trends. That philosophy also led her to become an advanced technique trainer and educator for Revance.
“I had been asked to be a trainer previously several years ago by another major brand, but I declined due to travel demands in the role,” she says.
After incorporating DAXXIFY and the RHA Collection into her practice, Dr. Levin was impressed by both the versatility and the results.
“Each product meets my standard, which is why I made the commitment to partner as a trainer. I’ve tested numerous neurotoxins and fillers and still use Botox, but I’m pretty much a Revance girl now,” she says.
For Dr. Levin, teaching is a natural extension of patient care.
“I view the role as a mentor. Helping other providers become comfortable and confident with a procedure or technique is an honor I don’t take lightly,” she says.
From Favorites to Fads
While cosmetic dermatology continues to evolve, Dr. Levin believes the industry’s foundation has remained remarkably consistent.
“Neurotoxins, fillers, laser hair removal, CO2 laser and vascular lasers are wonderful, safe and effective staples with the right provider,” she offers.
What has changed, Dr. Levin explains, is the patient experience.
“The science has not changed significantly. We know the science—how the neurotoxin works, the viscosity of the filler, which laser wavelengths work,” she says. “The advancements have been in making treatments faster, more comfortable and more efficient. Neurotoxins are setting faster, fillers are infused with numbing, lasers have larger treatment spots, run faster, with comfort functionality.”
One treatment she believes deserves more attention is the thread lift—a minimally invasive procedure designed to lift and tighten sagging tissue. “It’s not as well-known as some of the others, but it’s a solid treatment,” she says.
Building on Success
Dr. Levin believes success is built on integrity and care. “I want patients to be happy coming here. It’s the simple things, like running on time, and the big things, like ensuring patient safety and satisfaction with a boatload of kindness.”
She credits much of that success to her entire team, including her “phenomenal” cosmetic staff, board-certified physician assistant, Michelle Smalley; cosmetic consultant, Tara Avallone; and licensed esthetician, Kaylynn Rosado, whose collaborative approach helps patients achieve thoughtful, natural-looking results.
For Dr. Levin, cosmetic dermatology has always been more than injections or lasers. It lives at the intersection of medicine, artistry and education. Whether she’s treating a patient, evaluating a new technology or mentoring another provider, the mission remains the same: to combine science, skill and an artistic eye in ways that help people feel confident in their own skin.
It’s a philosophy that has shaped her practice for more than 20 years—and one she now has the privilege of passing on to the next generation of aesthetic providers.
