Coit recommends a few preventive measures:
? Clean gutters regularly to prevent water backup
? Inspect your roof for missing or damaged shingles
? Insulate exposed pipes to help prevent freezing and bursting
? Seal windows and doors to keep out drafts and moisture
? Service your HVAC system annually
? Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
? Check your sump pump
? Trim dead or overhanging tree branches
? Review your homeowner's insurance policy to understand your coverage.
If an emergency occurs, document any visible damage, contact your insurance company, and call a restoration expert immediately. Acting quickly can minimize damage, reduce costs, and help get your home—and your life—back to normal faster.
