A Different Approach to Beauty
A 2026 Best of the Best honoree, Wair Studio Salon is committed to using products that promote a healthy scalp and hair, including organic hair coloring.
For many stylists, the shift to organic hair color isn’t just a trend—it’s a philosophy. Hope Doms, owner of Wair Studio Salon in Marlton, which has been chosen as a 2026 Best of the Best winner for hair color by South Jersey Magazine, is a firm believer in organic, chemical-free beauty. At Wair, only organic products that support a healthy scalp and hair are used.
“I feel like it’s a mindset,” explains Doms. “We eat clean, we take care of our bodies and our skin—what we put on our scalp and hair should be just as clean.”
Doms made the decision when she first opened Wair, over seven years ago, to work exclusively with organic hair and skin care products. “It’s about asking, what small changes can we make to keep our bodies healthy?” she says. “It all plays a bigger part in how we live. After all, what is life without your health?”
Continuous education is central to that mission. “You have to become your own advocate. At Wair we train often on all our product lines, and I’m always researching, always looking for something better. I don’t wait for change—I go find it.”
Technology plays a role, too. “We even use AI to break down ingredients—what they mean, how they work—and to help analyze salon performance and improve the business side.”
The term “organic” in hair care can be confusing—and sometimes misleading. “In the U.S., certain ingredients qualify a product as ‘organic,’ but that doesn’t always tell the full story,” says Doms. “I do my research beyond the label.”
For Doms, it’s about more than ingredients. “It’s also about sustainability—how products are made, how they impact the environment, knowing that the facility where the products are made is clean and healthy. We’re seeing more brands prioritize eco-conscious practices, and that’s something I actively look for when choosing what to use at Wair.”
Doms also notes that people can often misunderstand the terminology. “There’s ‘organic,’ ‘natural,’ and ‘low-chemical,’ and they’re not all the same. I look for products with fewer, safer ingredients that are still effective. It’s about balance—health and performance.”
A company that aligns with Doms’ beliefs is O&M. Their line of products is widely used at Wair. “O&M believes that hair color is a health choice—their products are clean from ammonia, PPD and Resorcinol and contain limited chemicals while ensuring the highest degree of results.”
Organic hair color isn’t just a swap—it’s a different approach. “You have to be trained in how to apply it properly,” says Doms. “Organic hair color typically sits on the hair in a way that’s much gentler.”
Clients often notice immediate benefits. Doms says with organic products there’s often no burning sensation, the hair is shinier and clients see about 50% less frizz. “The ingredients actually help promote healthier hair growth, so the whole process feels less stressful on the hair and scalp.”
As for limitations? “Honestly, [there are] none. You still get gray coverage, for example, but it’s softer and more natural. It’s not that heavy, opaque ‘shoe polish’ look—it mimics highlights and blends beautifully.” And longevity is comparable to traditional color. It lasts the same amount of time.
Interest in organic color continues to grow across a wide range of clients. “People are becoming more aware of what they’re putting in and on their bodies,” says Doms. “That awareness naturally extends to hair care.”
The difference is often something clients can feel right away. “They notice their hair feels healthier, softer and more manageable after just one appointment.”
At its core, organic hair color is about long-term wellness. “It supports scalp health and overall well-being. You’re reducing exposure to harsher chemicals, which makes a difference over time—for both the client and the stylist.”
The clean beauty movement is evolving quickly—and becoming more advanced. “In the beauty industry right now, we’re seeing more innovation with peptides and stem cells,” says Doms. “We use those in our skincare offerings. The goal is to be clean, but also effective.”
Organic hair color is no longer niche. It’s definitely becoming more mainstream. “We at Wair are more than prepared to give our clients the best care and products with the results they love.”
