Purposeful Pampering
Beauty by Biba is showing the beauty industry what it means to care for the skin.
In today’s day and age, almost everyone is trying to find ways to look perfect and youthful. Hopping on multiple beauty trends, taking recommendations from unqualified influencers, buying too many products, going through procedures that are not needed and following ridiculous skin care routines all contribute to this unrealistic and damaging culture.
Since this is so embedded in our society, it is difficult to find businesses that provide authentic services that prioritize what your skin actually needs. This industry is a field that requires thoughtful care, products and services that are built for lasting results and keep you wanting to care for your skin efficiently.
A business that keeps this promise is Beauty by Biba, a boutique spa that specializes in facials, custom skin treatments and waxing, making it a priority to treat every client as if they’re family.
In the beauty, cosmetic and personal care industry for almost 20 years, owner and founder Biba Vernon grew up with the knowledge of how personal care is extremely important. “I had grown up in Los Angeles with my mother, who was always into skin care. From a very young age, I learned from her how you can have all the best clothes and shoes in the world, but if you don’t have good skin, what’s the point?” Vernon says.
Even though she grew up with knowledge of skin care, she had never thought this was where life was going to take her. Vernon took a leap of faith and in 2018, opened Beauty by Biba. Ever since, Vernon has created a name for herself, and her brand that she built is inspired by how important facials are.
As a 90-minute experience, “The Signature Facial” is a facial that Vernon says is the foundation of anti-aging, making sure to clean out every single pore. This popular pick will help brighten, smooth and depuff the face overall, serving as a stepping stone for someone who is new to facials. For clients looking for an ongoing treatment plan, LeClub, their new facial membership program, is designed for those who understand that real results come from showing up for your skin regularly.
“Our anti-aging treatments that we offer in addition to our facials are the treatments that are non-invasive, which can help slow down the aging process,” Vernon says. “We can’t stop it, we can’t pause it, but we can really slow it down and try to get ahead of it.”
Another available anti-aging option is the “Microcurrent Lift Facial.” This facial is a lifting and toning process that uses low-level electrical currents to lift, tone and firm the skin. “Microcurrent feels really good—it’s like a lazy workout for your face,” Vernon says. “This reeducates and lifts the facial muscles while increasing the cellular energy within the muscle, so the skin looks better.”
A third treatment that is popular among clients is their “ProCell”. This series involves microchanneling combined with growth factors to help stimulate the body’s renewal process. “They found that with microchanneling, in many cases you can achieve the same result as microneedling, but without all the pain and the downtime,” Vernon explains. “With microchanneling, we are causing a wound healing cascade which activates your collagen and elastin reserves to start producing more. Procell is also offered for the hair as well as the face, as it naturally stimulates new hair growth.
“Clients can expect reduced fine lines, wrinkles and pore size, as well as a softening of scars, sun spots and stretch marks,” she continues.
Other additional services like lymphatic drainage, chemical peels, microdermabrasion and dermaplaning can be blended to meet your skin’s needs and achieve a beautiful, revitalized look.
When we were little and dreamed about being older, we watched our moms wear makeup, do their nightly skin care routine and indulge in spa days. With Beauty by Biba’s “Spa Parties,” younger children and teens can do just that.
These events are a fun day of pampering that accommodates groups of three to nine adults as well as groups of three to 12 children. Their youth parties are for ages 5 to 11, which include a 25-minute service that incorporates cucumbers for their eyes, a light steaming and cleansing, masks, pink satin robes and gift bags as a departure.
As much as this is a day of relaxation and excitement, Vernon makes sure that during these spa parties, guests are educated on their skin and the upkeep it requires. “We educate them a little bit on their skin and things that they should be looking out for as they get into their teen years,” Vernon says. “With the teens, it’s the same thing. They get facials, which are a little bit more involved, but it’s so great that they’re also getting that nice basic education about taking care of their skin.”
As a business, it is important to have qualities that make customers want to return. At Beauty by Biba, it is shown that they value their clients, as if they know each of them personally. They take into consideration how performative this industry can be, and make sure they take the right steps in caring for everyone who walks through their door.
“There are a lot of factory-like facials now, where they really don’t clean the face out properly. It’s just a bunch of fluff, 50 minutes long and then you’re out the door,” Vernon explains. “My facials are long and involved. When you come in for a facial, we are sitting down with you. We want to know what you are using, what your skin story is. This is not an in-and-out, rushed type process that is very prevalent in this day and age,” she continues.
Beauty by Biba’s dedication to the beauty, cosmetic and personal care industry is visible through their personal touch with services that they offer. When you have professionals who take the time to get to know and understand their clients, it makes all the difference.
“I think for women to realize this is a part of their life,” Vernon says. “This is a part of their wellness and a part of them feeling good about themselves and being the best mom, wife and person that they can be.”
