Compassionate Care
Falco, Caruso & Leonard Funeral Home offers quality services, expert guidance and loving support to families across South Jersey.

by Kristen Dowd
Falco, Caruso & Leonard Funeral Home dates back more than 75 years, and the Pennsauken-based business continues to weave the tradition and quality service from those early years into everything they do.

“We've been family owned for generations,” Ashley Caruso-Condon says. “There’s a beauty of that family relationship. My dad alongside his wife Denise Caruso worked really hard to get where he is today, and he has had his family and great staff supporting him along the way.”

Caruso-Condon and her husband, Robert E. Condon III, who are both licensed funeral directors, now work alongside family patriarch Enrico T. Caruso Jr. in running Falco, Caruso & Leonard Funeral Home. Started in South Camden in the late 1940s, the business has changed leadership over the years, but the mission has remained the same—to offer quality funeral services to South Jersey.

Steeped in history with modern amenities

Falco, Caruso & Leonard Funeral Home dates to 1947 in South Camden, when Falco Funeral Home opened. In 1962, they added the Pennsauken location. Caruso Jr. obtained his funeral director license in 1975 and started working at Falco until 1993, when he bought the business, changing the name to Falco and Caruso. In 1997, he also bought the Edward P. Leonard Jr. Funeral Home in the Cramer Hill section of Camden. Thus, Falco, Caruso & Leonard Funeral Home was established.

“The Falcos and Leonards were well-respected funeral directors, and we still have relationships with their families,” Caruso-Condon says.

While they still maintain the Camden location, the Pennsauken funeral home is the much larger state-of-the-art facility. It has grown to accommodate the needs of families, with a children’s area and a designated cafe area for families to offer food and beverages to those attending a viewing or service.

“We’re big on how we can take every part of our facility and use it for our clients. It’s important,” Caruso-Condon says.

The chapel is equipped with an Envision system, which features a number of screens around the room that can highlight a loved one’s life with photos and memories.

“A lot of funeral homes are still doing just picture boards. And they’re great, but sometimes they disturb traffic flow or if it’s a long line and you’re trying to rush in and get out, you don’t take the time to really look at them. The next thing most funeral homes did was put in TVs and play the typical powerpoint slideshow,” Caruso-Condon explains. “Our Envision is really neat. We put so much customization into the video that the family gets to keep, and it can be uploaded online. You can also bring the video to churches as long as the church is comfortable with it.”

In fact, Falco, Caruso & Leonard Funeral Home can bring all of its specialty services and care to any house of worship across the region. Families can host their loved one’s service at a location convenient to them and still take advantage of the Falco, Caruso & Leonard Funeral Home expertise.

Serving all of South Jersey

“I think it’s important that people know, we’re willing to travel all over South Jersey to give people quality service. We pride ourselves in the work we do,” Caruso-Condon explains.

This pride extends from the products used for the deceased—including the best quality embalming fluids and cosmetics to ensure a natural, quality appearance—to the high level of service provided every step of the way.

They also serve all cultures.

“We’re really big on that. We love the diversity. We could be doing a Buddhist funeral one day, the next day Baptist, the next Catholic. It’s very unique, and I think people like that about us— we’re very diverse. Even our staff is diverse,” Caruso-Condon says.

They’re also ready to support whatever customs a family desires, whether religious or otherwise.

“We’re big on customs. So whatever your custom and culture are, we’re happy to accommodate them,” she says.

And to ensure the staff is staying on top of industry developments, Caruso-Condon says they are always continuing their education, taking part in the National Funeral Directors Association Convention and learning about trends, such as “green burials” with composting of the deceased.

“We’re a very innovative funeral home,” she adds.

Family care from prearrangements to services

The Falco, Caruso & Leonard Funeral Home staff is a close-knit team, and everyone is prepared to help with whatever is needed.

“We give care and attention to your loved one,” Caruso-Condon says, adding this ranges from removal to the funeral home to embalming to the entire service, cremation or burial. There is empathy and confidentiality every step of the way.

Caruso-Condon stresses the importance of prearrangements, which her team is also well equipped to support. These give peace of mind for the family, she explains, and helps with legalities. The funeral home offers community lunch and learns on prearrangements as well, and they post upcoming opportunities on their website.

Funding is also an obvious concern when it comes to funeral services, and Caruso-Condon says there are options, including paying through life insurance policies, working with a state trust fund and making payments.

At the end of the day, it’s all about making the process of losing a loved one easier for families and ensuring dignity for the deceased.

“It’s really treating that deceased so special. We’ll treat your mom just like she’s our mom or grandmom. We really mean that. We’re a really good staff. If we’re not family, we’re like family,” Caruso-Condon says. “We love what we do. It’s a very rewarding job.”
