From initial correspondence with Bancroft through the journey toward recovery, independence, and improved quality of life, patients and their families are met with individualized attention and support. The outpatient rehab facility builds a team of compassionate physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and neuropsychologists—90% of whom are board-certified clinical specialists in neurological therapy —who deliver a multidisciplinary approach.
“With that, they have a lot of experience treating patients with traumatic brain injury, stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and so forth. Our approach is to focus on the whole person to understand the entire clinical picture. For example, someone may go to another outpatient clinic with balance issues, but they may not recognize the cognitive implications on balance or any underlying issues the person may have,” says Rich Ciullo, Senior Director of Outpatient Services for Bancroft NeuroRehab.
Ciullo has a Physical Therapy background spanning 24 years that began in outpatient orthopedics, and after his experience at Bancroft NeuroRehab, he affirms it is “the best-suited facility for anybody that has a gait or balance disorder, muscle weakness, or any kind of mobility disorder.”
After a patient receives a referral and begins working with Bancroft, they will receive a detailed hour-long evaluation. The initial sessions with a patient will determine a multifaceted plan for the best approach to recovery. These clinicians practice evidence-based treatments that incorporate the latest research and technology in a one-on-one setting.
They will assess factors such as caregiver collaboration, ability to conduct at-home practices, a patient’s goals, history and needs, and more. Bancroft incorporates proven treatments for a vast variety of conditions, including but not limited to: brain injury, communicative and visual disorders, and conditions related to COVID-19. The outpatient therapies available are: Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Vestibular Therapy, Vision therapy, and Rehabilitation Psychology.
“We're fortunate enough to have psychology on staff because we're able to consider both the physical and emotional needs that person may have after their injury, or life transition, and we kind of feel like this leads to a more holistic, individualized approach to help them achieve their outcomes,” Ciullo affirms.
Additionally available are residential rehabilitation programs for 24/7 assistance, or therapeutic day treatment programs focused on activities that are designed to be both fulfilling and restorative. There are several options for different levels of supervision, depending on necessity—for which Bancroft’s staff will guide families through.
“We create the bridge between acute rehab and ultimately, returning a person back to their home, which is where they want to be,” says Ciullo.
Bancroft’s focus is on the individual patient from the onset until long after they complete their rehabilitation with its emphasis on each patient’s future. That’s why the organization even offers employment services, which aim to help people with neurological conditions gain meaningful strategies to obtain and to maintain a place in the competitive workforce. These compensatory strategies will equip patients with independence, which is Bancroft NeuroRehab’s main goal.
The results are undeniable—and the abundance of success stories that Bancroft NeuroRehab’s team has witnessed encompass hope and perseverance to overcome an injury or condition.
“Coming from the outpatient orthopedic world, there is a lot of competition in the outpatient space. Having worked with those companies and working with this population, I wholeheartedly believe that we are able to provide more attention and individualized care to our patients,” Ciullo says. “First and foremost, we care about each patient that comes in our door.”
