A Vision of Beauty
South Jersey Magazine’s “Best of the Best 2024” salon and facial specialists collaborated to bring a new head spa experience: one-of-a-kind pampering treatment fit for royalty.

by Carly Murray

There are few things in life that feel as incredible as a massage, a facial or a lavish shampooing at a salon. That is why two of the region’s leading beauty entrepreneurs, Hope Doms and Biba Vernon, created an innovative new beauty collective that harmonizes all of the best in self-care. Their collaborative head spa service is now available for appointments at Wair Studio Salon’s new location in Marlton, an experience that not only feels heavenly, but is designed to promote healthy scalps and hair growth by using the best natural products.

Vernon opened Beauty by Biba in 2018, and Doms debuted her original Wair Studio Salon shortly after in 2019. They frequently discussed the beauty industry and their ideas to provide a service that incorporates what they both do so well while staying true to both loyal and first-time clients.

“I wanted to ensure that even in a larger space, we maintained that intimate, boutique feel. Clients still receive the same personalized, one-on-one with their stylist, which has always been a cornerstone of our approach. People can go anywhere to get a facial or haircut but it’s the experience that leaves the lasting impression,” says Doms.

The vision was conceptualized when Vernon incorporated her glamorous aesthetic and luxurious services into two rooms at Wair Studio Salon that are designated for the new head spa treatments. She wants her clients to instantly recognize her iconic style and feel her warm presence despite her not working on-location due to time constraints between her two facial spas. However, she hired a personally-trained team of therapists with a passion for making people feel as though they’ve transcended with decades of training in myofascial release massage and cranial sacral techniques.

While head spas are the latest self-care trend on social media, locations will rarely factor in a health and longevity component. Furthermore, scalp facials have been commonplace in Asia for centuries, only now making their way to the U.S. self-care movement. What resulted from a comprehensive study by the duo of the best head spa elements is an all-inclusive treatment that is hard to find anywhere else.

“I've already had clients tell me that they've already booked their next one, because they realize they have issues with their scalp, and this is something that they should do at least seasonally. If someone really doesn't have any issues… they can come in once a year, or when they're really stressed out because this will put them into outer space,” Vernon says.

The three types of head spa treatments are the 60-minute signature package that includes a scalp analysis with a stimulating, high-frequency comb to oxygenate the tissues. Clients receive a customized cleansing, detoxification and hydration, organic herbal steam and botanicals, neck and shoulder stretching and massage, a tailored facial cleansing, exfoliating, then a wonderful hydrating mask for the hair. A 90-minute deluxe package can be booked that includes the signature plus hand and arm massage, hair gloss treatment and blowout.

“We like to talk about scalp health and everyone receives an email about how to care for their scalp afterwards. This is a luxury, but it's also something that is on the medical side. People are just amazed: they can see their scalp close up and all these hot spots, and then to be able to see the difference afterwards—it's very satisfying.”

There is also a 45-minute express scalp treatment, plus many add-ons to customize your experience such as scalp boost, sound healing, eye treatments and more.

“Not only will they get a nice experience with cut and color with all of our experienced stylists, now they can actually get… a great scalp treatment, still using all non-toxic organic products, because that's very, very important to the salon. That's the reason why I opened. We want to make sure everyone knows that our products are still clean,” affirms Doms.

In between extensions, the treatment helps prevent buildup and keeps the scalp balanced, promoting healthier natural hair growth and reducing any potential damage or stress caused by the extensions. Pairing this with the calligraphy cut further enhances the overall health and appearance of the hair, leaving it fuller, stronger, and more vibrant. While some salons may require a client to move from chair to chair for different services, this head spa guarantees that clients don’t have to even lift a finger.

A facial for the scalp is akin to magic: in the way it feels, to the undeniable results—and of course, in regard to the experts who make it happen. This luxurious pampering is only available to book through Wair Studio Salon, and appointments are newly available on the website.
