Salty, sour pickles get an added bit of richness and some extra crunch when coated in corn meal and deep fried. The whole dish gets an extra “oomf” thanks to house-made dipping sauces served with each basket, for a bit of creaminess and heat.

Take your pick from chicken or steak, then pile on gooey cheese and a house-made chipotle ranch sauce for a plate that’s smoky, rich and just a bit spicy.

Vegetarians flip for this option, featuring a multigrain tortilla with low-fat Cheddar cheese, mixed bell peppers, fresh scallions, jalapeños and a Baja black bean salsa. It comes served with cilantro sour cream for an added burst of freshness.

The legendary Oaklyn hoagie shop Amato Bros. has temporarily shut down after a fire. The owners have begun demolition with plans to reopen as soon as possible.

Cherry Hill’s Eat.Pizza has closed after less than a year in business. The space has been bought by Oriental Pearl, an Asian restaurant with locations in Haddonfield and Moorestown.

Haddonfield’s Kings Highway has welcomed a new sweet spot in Gelato Dolceria, an artisan gelato shop owned by Mount Laurel residents Miguel Paletta and John Caiola.

Collingswood’s newest eatery Circles has opened in The Lumberyard. The Thai restaurant is the first New Jersey location for Philadelphia-based chef Alex Boonphaya, who owns several city locations already.

Season two of Simply Laura—hosted by South Jersey resident and YouTube sensation Laura Vitale—will premiere March 5 on the Cooking Channel. This season Vitale takes the show to some of her favorite places including the Harrison Diner and Crescent Moon Coffee & Tea in Mullica Hill.

South Jersey’s newest microbrewery comes in the form of Eclipse Brewing, a Merchantville-based brewery with plans to open later this year.

The owners behind Ocean City eatery Sandwich Bar have opened a second location in Haddon Heights, called Sub Shop.
