Once the Olsons put a call out on social media, they began accepting book donations from friends, family and local establishments. “It took us about [six-to-eight] weeks,” Olson explains, who is a National American Miss Pre-Teen State Finalist for N.J. "Books were coming in all the time."
As a result, Olson acquired more than 2,000 books and after sorting based on quality and age-appropriate books—which she sold and raised $220—Olson donated 1,303 books and the cash this past Valentine’s Day, making it the largest book donation the hospital has received. “I hope it helps [teach] kids how to read and helps [their] brains develop quicker and in a healthier way. I hope it makes more people think about giving books,” she adds.
