Legal Eyes

by Editorial Staff--South Jersey Magazine

Navigating the twists and turns of the country’s legal system can be nearly impossible without the right representation, which is why we’re lucky to have such top-notch lawyers right in our own backyard to help with any legal matter from medical malpractice to workers’ compensation.

We collected votes from hundreds of readers across the area to nail down South Jersey Magazine’s final list of Awesome Attorneys for 2012. The result?

A selection of 185 attorneys in 42 specialties that are going above and beyond to keep South Jersey’s residents and businesses well-protected in the complicated legal world. Read on to meet some of the attorneys featured in this year’s list, followed by our full list for this year. Extended Q&A’s with the attorneys are also available online at SouthJersey.com.

Michael J. Stein
Michael J. Stein, Attorney At Law
Years in Practice: 15
What’s the biggest challenge you face in your field of law? Technology and social media and its daily impact on my clients’ needs.

Charles C. Bratton
Rothamel Bratton, LLC
Years in Practice: 11
What’s your proudest career accomplishment thus far? It’s always great to be recognized by your peers, but mine really comes day to day. Meeting with clients to figure out their goals and provide them with a way to achieve those goals provides a great sense of accomplishment.

Judith S. Charny
Charny, Charny & Karpousis, PA
Years in Practice: 28
What’s something you know now that you wished you learned in law school? Learning how to communicate with clients, victims and defendants on a personal level is not even addressed in law school. It is crucial for a good lawyer to be able to understand people and not just the basics of the law. There should be more emphasis on the psychology of being a lawyer.

Peter S. Bejsiuk
Capehart Scatchard
Years in Practice: 33
What’s your favorite ways to unwind from the stresses of the job? My relaxation revolves around family, friends, food and drink. It would be great if every week could be Thanksgiving week!

Michael S. Ringold
Dansky/Katz/Ringold/York
Years in Practice: 22
What’s your proudest career accomplishment thus far? Working with a team of talented lawyers, paralegals, and nurses to build a nursing home litigation team from scratch and make it into a respectful, successful team of talented lawyers, paralegals and nurses who are proud to have respect for our opponents, judges and clients.

Stephanie Zane
Archer & Greiner, P.C.
Years in Practice: 12
What’s your proudest career accomplishment thus far? Being named Partner at Archer & Greiner, P.C. before I turned 35 years old.

N. Ryan Trabosh
Trabosh and Trabosh
Years in Practice: 10
What’s something you know now that you wished you learned in law school? That nothing but on-the-job experience can truly teach the skills you need to be a successful attorney.

Amy Goldstein
Capehart & Scatchard
Years in Practice: 30
What’s the biggest challenge you face in your field of law? In my field, the biggest challenge is balancing the constrictions of the law with the reality of people’s lives. They don’t always go hand-in-hand.

Benjamin L. Dash
Dash Farrow, LLP
Years in Practice: 11
What’s your favorite ways to unwind from the stresses of the job? As cliché as it might sound, spending time with my family always eases, away the many stresses that come with this profession.

Nancy D. Gold
Charny, Charny & Karpousis, PA
Years in Practice: 36
What’s something you know now that you wished you learned in law school? How to actually practice law—the business of it.

Adam S. Malamut
Liebling Malamut & Sunkett, LLC
Years in Practice: 13
What’s the biggest challenge you face in your field of law? Tort reform. The insurance companies have made it very difficult for people who are injured to be justly compensated.

Dawn Kaplan
Weinberg, Kaplan & Smith, P.A.
Years in Practice: 13
What’s your proudest career accomplishment thus far? Starting my own law firm with Amy Smith and Joseph Weinberg— two people who I truly admire and respect as individuals and attorneys.

Julie LaVan
LaVan Law
Years in Practice: 6
What’s something you know now that you wished you learned in law school? The ability to maneuver within the judicial system.

Alan Domers
Domers & Bonamassa
Years in Practice: 39
What’s your proudest career accomplishment thus far? Starting my own law firm 20 years ago and sustaining a law partnership for this period of time.

Robert J. Adinolfi
Adinolfi & Lieberman, PA
Years in Practice: 35
What’s the biggest challenge you face in your field of law? The ever-changing economic climate and its impact on my clients and their case issues.

Howard S. Mendelson
Davis & Mendelson, LLC
Years in Practice: 26
What’s your favorite ways to unwind from the stresses of the job? My favorite ways to reduce stress include meditation, prayer, and family time; my wife and I have been blessed with four awesome children, ages 24 to 10. While we certainly sometimes forget, the birthday parties, soccer games, baseball games, camping trips, school plays, graduations, etc. are probably the best stress reducers we have. And that 10-year-old still keeps her old father “young” with lots of “fun stuff.”

Kimberly A. Packman
Adinolfi & Lieberman, PA
Years in Practice: 15
What’s the biggest challenge you face in your field of law? Convincing clients that sometimes the best result is the one reached through negotiation and compromise and not based upon the principle of the matter or through a judge’s order.

Harris C. Legome
Legome & Associates, LLC
Years in Practice: 22
Whats something you know now that you wished you learned in law school? That I should have gone to medical school.

Christopher Rade Musulin
Musulin Law Firm
Years in Practice: 24
What’s the biggest challenge you face in your field of law? Finding enough hours in the day to address all the very important and real concerns of my clients who are going through so much change.

Amy Smith
Weinberg, Kaplan & Smith
Years in Practice: 12
What’s something you know now that you wished you learned in law school? How to effectively use the rules of evidence. I did not learn the rules of evidence until I became a prosecutor and began doing jury.

Mark J. Sever Jr.
Archer & Greiner, P.C.
Years in Practice: 18
What’s your favorite ways to unwind from the stresses of the job? Stress out instead by watching the Eagles, Phillies, or my beloved Michigan Wolverines, or head down the Shore with my family.
