5 Spot: Fabulous Fries
While we prefer fresh hand-cut fries, we try not to discriminate—they are all good by us. What we love most is that just when you think you’ve had fries every way possible, we find a place taking things to new levels, like these five appetizing takes we’ve recently discovered.

Max’s Seafood Café Crab Fries
Available on the bar menu at the soon-to-be 100-year-old saloon, the fries are coated in Old Bay seasoning and topped with sautéed crabmeat. 34 N. Burlington St., Gloucester City, (856) 456-9774

The Pour House Cheese Fries & Short Rib Gravy
What do you get when you take shoestring fries, add American cheese and short rib and onion gravy? A full stomach. 124 Haddon Ave., Westmont, (856) 869-4600

The Whitman Gonzo Fries
This hip diner/modern lounge reinvents a classic by adding applewood smoked bacon, pepperjack and cheddar cheeses, scallions and sour cream. 4900 Route 42, Turnersville, (856) 228-4449

Kaminski’s Bar and Grill Spanish Fries
This “gourmet” basket of fries is well-seasoned and comes complete with fried onions, jalapenos and a chipotle aioli for an added flavor boost. 1424 Brace Road, Cherry Hill, (856) 428-2555

Iron Hill Brewery Pommes Frites
Fried twice, this crispy pub grub differs from the more traditional takes. They stand on their own, even without the accompanying caramelized garlic-rosemary sauce. 124 E. Kings Hwy., Maple Shade, (856) 273-0300

Fast Food
Culinary news to chew on

• A wine tasting will be held May 19 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., presented by the Wine Cellar in Cinnaminson at the Moorestown Visiting Nurse Association, to benefit patients and families in need throughout the tri-county area. Tickets are $50; call (856) 552-1300 ext. 2111 for more information.

• May 19 marks the debut of a new outdoor farmers market at the Voorhees Town Center. The grand opening celebration will feature a cooking demonstration, a petting zoo for kids, and giveaways. The market will be open every Saturday, rain or shine, from 8 a.m. to noon.

• The annual Taste of Evesham will take place May 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. Local restaurants and vendors will line Main Street, between Cooper and Locust. Tickets range from $5 to $15.

• The Cherry Hill Mall recently welcomed Chicken Now, a sandwich and wrap stand in the food court. Soon, fondue spot Coco Fruit will open a kiosk near Macy’s.

• Dubh Linn Square, the space that formerly housed Blue Eyes and Jack’s Bar and Grille, is no more in Washington Township. The owners have kept the Irish décor, but changed the name to Lazy Lanigans Publick House.

• Classic Cake will partner with the Camden Riversharks this season. Chef Robert Bennett will craft cupcakes that pay homage to the team mascot, Finley, that will be for sale at concession stands along with a few other indulgences.

Mixology Monthly
This month, we asked Ori Geshury of the Cherry Hill Mixology Wine Institute to craft us a cocktail that features one of our favorite ingredients—the blood orange. With fresh, ripe blood oranges coming into season, Geshury likes to blend them with Scotch. “The smoky character of the Scotch pairs with the bright, bold citrus and is tempered by the sweet vermouth and cherry brandy,” he says.

Blood and Sand
1 oz. blended Scotch
1 oz. blood orange juice
¾ oz. artisanal vermouth
¾ oz. cherry liqueur

Combine ingredients, shake, then strain and garnish with a blood orange peel.
